What I know about ups is to protect the computer and backup the important data. UPS is a fly-wheel or battery backup which is developed and used to maintain a continuous source of power when there are cases of power failure or emergency. UPS works normally with VRLA batteries. However, temperature is one of the biggest things that affect a UPS battery.

High temperature would affect the inner part of the battery, specifically the acid and the metals that is present in it. This will eventually lead to a short life of the UPS battery. To fight this, three phase batteries have been launched. These batteries come with temperature compensated chargers. These three phase batteries are very useful.

But these chargers do not make the power source completely immune to the problems of temperature variations. Regular maintenance and checks should be done so that problem can be detected beforehand. Once every year, regular check and once every two years, completely loaded test is suggested for these batteries, for those too that have a temperature compensated charger.

So if you have a ups, you'd better to prepare a temperature compensated charger at home. To prolong its life, you should do the general maintenance for the ups replacement battery.
